Get in The Game! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As you know, with all the pink on the football fields and the vast amounts of information being shared, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  This disease has had some type of effect on each of us.  Maybe you had a loved one who has battled with cancer.  My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer ten years ago.  She only had to have twenty rounds of radiation and shortly after she went into remission. Unfortunately, there are many women that have a similar story but a different ending.

Let's try to make a conscious effort to conduct self-exams, make annual visits for our monograms and create an early detection plan.  If you log onto www.earlydetectionplan.org you can find out more information about this nifty plan.  You can even get this plan as an app!

Myths About Breast Cancer

1. Only women get breast cancer.
Truth: Men can get breast cancer as well and should also do self breast exams.

2. A mammogram can cause breast cancer to spread.
Truth: The mammogram is the x-ray of the breast that helps in early detection of breast cancer.

3. If my breast don't hurt, I do not have breast cancer.
Truth: You may not have warning signs even if you have breast cancer.  Some lumps can be      very small and hard to find with a self-exam.

Ways to Get In the Game and Help
