I really enjoy taking a sanity break by skimming through the latest fashion magazines. What savvy chic mom doesn't enjoy relishing in the new fashion trends? However, are we taking the time to fashion ourselves and our kids in the armor of God: His word?
Just the other day, my friend and I were conversing about the importance of teaching our kids God's word. Of course, time came up as a factor. After after-school activities, dinner, chores and other stuff who really has time and the will to follow through? Even in the busyness we make time for so many things. Well, God's word is more important than extra curricular activities, house duties and any television show. We don't have to do away with these luxuries but we do need to carve out sometime to study the word.
Start with just 15 minutes a day. It can be before school, before bed, or anytime you choose. Just get it in and enjoy it! Here are a few ways you can help your kids thrive in the word of God.
Do A Weekly Memory Verse
This is really a fun way to learn scriptures. Have your kids to right the memory verse on construction paper. Allow them to color the paper and draw pictures. Post the finished master piece in their room or on the fridge. Everyday have them to read the bible verse and recite it without looking. Be sure to explain the bible verse to your kids in a way they will understand it.
Do A Prayer Journal
To this day, my prayer journal is an integral part of my worship to God. Kids love their own place to write their thoughts. Have them to write their prayers and verses in their very own prayer journal. It is a blessing to go back and read how God answers prayers.
Do Bible Study
Many churches offer a weekly bible study for adults and kids. Enroll your child in children's church and weekly bible study. This is a commitment. So for my family, we choose not to enroll our kids in any extra curricular-activities on bible study night. That night is designated for us to go and study God's word with our peers. Also, Awana is an awesome biblical based program for kids ages 2-18. This nonprofit ministry is centered around creative ways to teach your kids how to follow, love and serve Christ. Check their website to find out more information along with locations near you. My kids love Awana!!
Here you have it! A few ways to get your kids involved in the word of God. Fashion your kids in what matters most: God's word!
